Where Is VATS Module
Help Please
I have a 89 IROC convertable and have been told by several people that I have VATS. My problem is I bought it at an auction and it came without keys. When I tried to order new keys from a local locksmith they got a key code from GM. They looked it up and found no VATS code for it. The locksmith said they can make me a key for the ignition and door locks but they need the VATS code and say it is a number between 1 and 15. Does anyone know where I can find the VATS module to make sure I have VATS and if I do where I can find the code?
Thank You
John V.
Thanks for the help, Problem found and solved

It's on the right side behind the dash just above where your feet would be, right next to the ECM. It's a little black box about 3'X5" and it says "pass key" on it.

If you have VATS, there will be two white wires wrapped in orange coming from the steering column and connecting to two wires (purple/yellow & black/white) Unless someone has previously bypassed it. And as dyno don has mentioned, the VATS control module is mounted behind the dash just below the center air vents.

You can have the VATS disabled in the eprom chip, however what you are describing does not appear to be VATS related.

Then you shouldn't worry about bypassing VATS since you have already done it by removing the computer. The only two items affected by VATS through the computer was the starter enable relay and the fuel injectors. Since you now have a carburator instead of fuel injectors, you can rule them out.

You might want to go thru and check your wiring harness to make sure everything is wired up properly. Did you change out the wiring harness when you converted over to a carburator or did you simply re-route the existing wire harness? Another thought, did you remove the starter enable relay from the starter circuit?

sounds like you have a bad ground behind the dash somewhere, and when you open your door it is sourcing ground through the door pin. You should have something like 3 ground locations behind the dash.
