Please Help! Power To Relay, No start?

For the last 6 months or so when i try and start my car it clicks and i have to cut the key back and try it again 4 or 5 times beofer it would start. Well the last few days when i went to start it, it wouldnt do anything for a few times and id have to fool with it for a minute or so before it would start. Now today i cant get it to do anything, but i hear the starter enable relay clicking. Some times it clicks and sometimes it doesnt. My security light comes on for the 2 seconds and then goes off so i dont think its vats. Would the problem ahve to be between my relay and starter?
I just started a new job and i cant miss a day. Please help!

Sounds like a possible battery/battery connection problem.

Make sure your battery is good, and terminals are clean and well connected.

Check your battery cables for corrosion and wear.

This may sound dumb, but try wiggling your battery cables(especially around the terminals) and see what happens. If it starts...or tries to, you've found your problem.

If it doesn't, it doesn't discount it as a possibility.

Hello Bri3212,

I don't know if you got my e-mail last night, but here is some more information for you. Your car does not have a starter enable relay, at least not by that name. In your car, it is called a theft deterrent relay. Same thing as the starter enable relay in camaro's, Pontiac just had to give it a fancier sounding name. They are available through your local dealership, the part number is 1409 3107 and they are $18.34 + tax (at least at my dealership), Hope this helps!!!!!!!!!!!

I had a similar problem...sometimes turn over first try, but often it would just click like a dead battery.
Turned out to be a bad starter...never had the problem since I replaced it.

Hello souperman28,

Yours is located in the same spot as his, behind the left kick panel at the bottom. Has a connector with 4 wires going into it. A large and small yellow wire and a large and small green wire. By the way, I believe that the part number for yours will be different than his since your car is an earlier model.

Next thing I would look at depends on if it's stick or automatic.

For stick, I would check the adjustment for the clutch safety switch and wiring...located at your clutch pedal

For an automatic, check the park or neutral safety wiring located under your console.

Probably would verify these are ok before moving on to the starter enable relay, which on my 90 Camaro is located behind the driver side kick panel.

In each of the above possible causes, remember that corrosion is just as bad as a loose connection or bad adjustment.

Hope this helps.

Hello Bri3212,

How is it going with your problem, any luck yet? If you want to remove your shifter ****, look at the front of it and you will see a small retangular opening there. Inside it is a small U shaped pin, take a small pick or flat blade screwdriver and remove it. Next, just pull up on the shifter handle and it comes off. Cheers dude!!!!!!!!!!!!!
