No headlights or radio or hatch release, help!
well i hit one hell of a snag tonight. Went for a ride, mashed the gas, and lost all power for a split second and then everything went back normal, except my radio started beeping and then turned off, and wouldn't come back on (aftmkt sony). Stopped at my GF's house to check it out, and found that the wires going to the fusable links on the starter were sitting on my nice hot header.
No problemo right? Get back to the house, replace the lengths of wire that burned up (the fusables didn't burn, it was the wire leading to them), and i still have nothing. The car starts and runs totally fine, ignition has power, guages both stock and aftermarket have power, i have hazards, turn signals, wipers, windows the whole deal.
The only things i DON"T have are my radio, headlights/taillights, and my hatch release doesn't work.
I've verified that the headlamps arent burnt out, and i've traced a good bit of the wiring, no luck so far. Only thing i can hope is that maybe when the fusable grounded to the header it fried the switch. gonna try another switch tomorrow and see if that fixes it, doubtful, but maybe. It still wont fix my radio or hatch though. Weird thing about the radio is i know it has power because it will eject and accept a CD. just no power to the face plate.
At this point the only thing i can think is that when the wires grounded out on the header, it sent too much current through the headlight switch and hatch switch, although thats doubtful as well. The high beams don't turn on when i try to flick them on either.
Any thoughts on where to start. I've checked all fuses
Eric

First thing, the fusible link is that short length of wire between the starter terminal and the 'bulge'; the bulge just identifies where the end of the link is.
Double-check the fusible links - actually, replace those wires you replaced with real fusible links, or you risk doing serious damage if something else shorts out.
It really sounds like one of the links isn't getting its' power to the fuse block. One wire feeds power to all the items that can be operated without the key; IE: headlights, tail and brake lights, interior lights, radio memory, and hatch release. The other will feed those items that operate only with the key turned to 'ON' or 'ACC' - wipers, turn signals, gauges, etc...
