Well, probably not everything...

It's the same problem posted here numerous times: when hot you turn the key to start the car and nothing happens - no click; nothing. Then the car cools down and it starts perfectly. It started out once in a blue moon and now it's almost every day. I've done some homework and tried the following:

New Starter
'Starter wrap' heat shield
New Battery
connections cleaned
tested - good alternator
recent ignition rebuild (condition exitsted prior)

The car is in great shape and otherwise runs flawlessly. Is the starter relay something i should focus on next? I've looked at a bunch of posts but haven't found anything that applies directly..

Hmm, I had a similiar problem, I replaced it with a mini high torque starter and i havent had a problem since. They run around 200 bucks though. But i am very happy with mine. Draws very little power, and the car starts up within a second at all times.

 

Just curious here, do you have a pellet in the key and does the security come on for 2 seconds and go out, stay on, or not come on at all. Also, have you looked at the fusible links.

 

I just bought the starter a few months ago and believe me the LAST thing I want to go through is putting another one on and shimming it up - let's hope it doesn't come to that!
Yes, I have the key chip and the security light comes on and then shuts off after 2 seconds.
Checked the fusable links? No, I haven't tried that - would they be susceptible to a heat-only problem?

 

Uhh, that sounds like solenoid heat soak. One thing you can try is the remote starter solenoid from a Ford.

If they are laying against a hot surface, they could be affected.

 

Seems like he already tried the starter heat wrap shield when he replaced the starter.

 

Yeah, and? He still has problems when the car is hot, sounds like he should totally rule out heat soak.
