I've got an 83 z28 that i am putting a t-5 into and the t-5 is a WC t-5 out of a 91 rs. My 83 has the cable driven speedo and the trans is set up for electric of course. I want to know what all is required to swap in an electric speedo out of a later camaro or firebird (thinkin about firebird dash). Would i need the computer? What all wiring would i need?

 

More headache than it's worth. In order to swap in a Firebird dash, you'd need to swap in the wiring harness for it as well, then match up the wiring from it to the Camaro wiring; it's not plug-and-play. And then, the Camaro center console will need to be swapped out as well. Most of the same deal would apply to a 90-92 Camaro dash swap too, with the exception of the console.
All you need to make the existing speedo work, is a sending unit from an 83-89 T5 equipped Camaro, or 83-85 T5 equipped 'bird.

 

Hey,I was just wonering what you meant by a sending unit for the cable driven speedo? I have an 84 and the cable go's directly from the tranny to the speedo and is driven by a gear in the tranny.
As far as I know the only sending units were for the electric speedos.
