140 amp Alt.

I'm in the market for a 140 amp alt. I see Jegs has their version, summit has theirs and also there are many others available. Prices are somewhat close but which one should I get? Are there better ones or ones to stay away from?

they should all be pretty much the same. Just make sure you get one with a lifetime warrenty on it.

Thanks for the link. I'll definately check it out.
it's an 82 but it's not the stock crossfire motor. It now has a 350 with some upgrades.

They are all NOT the same, in fact there is more junk out there now more than ever. NAPA or AC Delco is still the way to go. Another way and most times a better alternative is take the stock unit and go to an alt shop and have it rebuilt and upgraded. You can specify what parts you want especially when it comes to the bearings and the diode package. There is a lot of offshore parts going into the chain store units and they are of marginal quality at best. Warranties mean nothing if you have to change it every couple of years or sooner.

Eh, with the lifetime warranty its not so bad paying $100 once. Its not like an alternator is a pita to change.

Only on a dark raining Sunday night. Then you will wish you had the better quality one.

Well, if your like every tech on here you watch for the warning signs, i've never had one just all of a sudden crap out. If you keep an eye on your voltage meter and notice the charge is going down, you will know what to expect. However, I see your point .
