Kill Switchs for TPIs

I am trying to convince a friend to put a kill switch on his Formula (he's got a lot of nice things done to it, and our city is not exactly the safest to park a car). I will do one for my GTA at the same time.

Is there any really convenient component to disable on a Tuned Port car? I once added a switch on my Grand Prix to disable the HEI's coil. I was later told that grounding the coil was harmful to it. Beats me?

My buddy said he'll just pull the coil wire. Popping the hood each time is not what I am after.

With all the relays and connectors these cars have, I wondered if there was anything recommended to toggle.

Any ideas would be appreciated.

The fuel pump would be a good one to disable. It won't run without it.

If it has VATS, that's another good one. My VATS malfunctioned several years ago, so I bought the proper resistor from radio shack, and wired it in with a relay activated by my cruise control. If I don't turn the cruise control on, my motor wont crank. I like it because it's so stealth. There's no extra kill switch to look for, and even my friends who ride with me don't know how to start it, because they never notice me reaching for the cruise button right before I crank it.

I'd say fuel pump...

Instead of a physical switch, make it a run through a wireless remote control. That way, the receiver can be hidden and even if it is found, they would need the remote to activate it. And keeping the transmitter inside your pocket, no one would give it a second thought when you reach inside to grab your keys.

neutral safety switch.
cut it off at the gear selector and the car will act just like its in drive, it wont start.
SAFE and EASY.

remote control is not a bad idea. i wish they would incorporate a cutoff output into the alarms...

I installed ignition and starter kill on my alarm so if you turn the key with the alarm on , no action at all besides the alarm screaming bloody murder. i even put a siren under the shifter plate and strobes behind the upper dash vents to properly blind the would-be thief at night. the strobes are useless in the daytime , but very effective at night. add an proximity radar sensor with an inner and outer field and it helps ease your paranoia when you leave your car locked up in the garage at night ,LOL.

genius. But does having the cruise control to "ON" constantly, ruin anything?

Nobody I know of has ever done this one...*wink* *wink*
But another good idea is to install a relay at the ECM power wire. It's on the passenger side (most thieves automatically look on the drivers side of the car for cut-out's and kill switches. Then the only tricky part is installing a switch that is well hidden, and easily accesible when YOU want to start the car.
-Mike
EDIT: Relay goes on the ECM wire that is hot with key in start and run...not the ECM battery connection. Just to clarify...I know someone would have jumped all over that one "you can't do that it'll clear the ECM's memory WHHAAA!!"

Not in 4 years, and it can be turned off as soon as the engine is started, although it has (twice) falsely set a security code, and required me to wait 5 minutes before I could restart. Annoying, but twice in 4 years (some 30-40K miles) is permissible in my opinion.

what you can do is just take the ecm fuse out of the panel and car will not start.

kill switch

I bought a kill switch from ebay it hooked to the inj1 and inj2 fuses in your fuse block. I hid the switch trigger pretty well. It works great. The guy I bought it thru is onefastkid..

I had a friend that installed a relay to his power seat switch, you had to adjust the seat height and crank at the same time to start it, although sneaky, kinda dumb because I adjust my seat as i start the car..

my old roomate had a momentary switch hidden under his carpet. if you turned the key nothing would happen, you had to put your foot down on a certain spot on the carpet (above and behind the break pedal) for it to start.
