Wiring power antenna

I wired in a new aftermarket power antenna. It works and everything but it only goes down when i turn the car off. How can i wire it so it goes down when i turn the radio off? so i can go through the car wash (reason i needed to replace the original antenna).

Is your stereo factory stock? According to my '83 service manual, there should be a pink wire coming out of one of the three main connectors on the stereo. Instead of connecting the antenna trigger wire to the ignition circuit, connect it to this pink wire.

If it's an aftermarket stereo, it might have a pink wire and blue wire. Pink is for a power antenna and blue is for an amplifier.

I think i wired it to the same wire as what supplies the radio with power. The one that is only hot when ignition is on. If i hook this up to a pink wire it will make the antenna go down if i turn the radio off but ignition is still on?

PS yes it is aftermarket radio

NO, NO

If you have a late model decent brand aftermarket, there will be a BLUE wire for Power Antenna, and a BLUE/WHITE for amps.

yes it is a "decent" radio. it's like a $400 kenwood. I tried to hook it up to the blue wire but i think it didn't work. There are three wires coming off the power antenna which one do i hook up to the blue wire?

You said it only goes down when you cut the car off?

take whatever wire you have wired to ignition, remove it and wire it through a fuse, to the blue. Now it should go down when you change from FM to CD or when you turn the unit off
