Passkey Help!!
I desperately need some help figuring out this passkey security system. Might not even be my problem, but here goes....
Randomly when I try to start my car I believe the security system is engaging because if I leave it for 5 mins or so it turns right over. Like I said its random, it could be hot, cold or otherwise. Tried calling the local dealership guy says oh could be anything, $65 an hour labor, bring it over darling and I'll see what I can do! (No thanks!) LOL
Can anyone please tell me where to start so I can narrow down the problem.
I already replaced the ignition cylinder and had a new key made, did really well for the first few weeks and then it started doing it again.
Thanks

There are a couple of areas that you you could check.
1. the starter enable relay under the left kick panel near the fuse block.
2. the wires going to the VATS control module under the dash.
3. the wires going to the Park/Neutral switch on the shifter assembly. Also check the switch to make sure it is attached securely.

Ok, I have my handy dandy Chiltons Manual here (LOL) and it doesn't say a single solutary thing about the VATS, does anyone have an accurate wiring diagram for the 1990 Firebird so I know what I am looking at and for!
Please forgive me at times, I am doing the learn as you go plan with this car. Got a really raw deal on it and if I had to pay someone I could have had a brand new one!
Thanks!

In regards to chilton giving any help in the area of VATS and many other things, it is worthless. I have the Schematics for the VATS system for a 92 firebird which is similar to yours. I will try to get that to you in an e-mail shortly. This info is from a GM service manual and not a Haynes or Chiltons.

Hello Bernadette103,
I have the info you requested, what I need you to do now is PM me with an e-mail address to send it too since you do not have one listed.
