I have an aftermarket radio in, it has been working fine for some time.

Last week the battery died. and it hasnt worked since.

I chared the battery while it was in the car I dont know if that has something to do with it

 

Check your fuses at the box, and at the radio. Did you happen to have a couple sparks when you hooked everything up? Might of blown fuses. Other than that, your radio is screwed.

 

I checked all the fuses in my fuse box, there all good..... Is there one behind the radio?

 

Yes at least 1 maybe 2

 

before I take it out... are they just regular fuses? Or do I have to get special ones?

 

Thry're usually the full size blade type, or depending on the make, it could also be the older tubular style. Nothing special, fuses that you can get at any auto parts store, or even walmart in the automotive section.

 

Before you condemn the radio drag out a volt meter and check for power and ground.
If it's an after market radio you should have three wires for power.
Yellow = Constant Power, should always show 12VDC
Red = Acc, Should go to 12V when you put key in the run.
Black = Ground, self explanatory, must be a good ground.
If you are missing one of them the radio will not turn on.

 

my kenwod deck has mini style fuses but my alpine that i used to have had ATO style(regular flat blade)

 

ATO was more common, now they're moving more to the ATM size.

 

I am sort of having the same problem. I had a remote wire to my amp ground out so i was trying to track that down and pulled my stereo out and it stopped working, no wires were exposted, fuses are all fine, and I have power...I have not ideas.. and with my remote wire, I checked with the fuse box between switched 12 and constant and still for a 12 volt reading, exactly what was happening with the remote wire..I don't understand where it could be grounded..

 

before you go pulling out interior panels.disconnect the remote wire from the amp and take another short wire and jump from b+ on the amp and the remote terminal if that doesnt get your amp working than working than its not the remoteit might be a poor ground. if it does get the amp to turn on than star pulling stuff apart. it may not be grounding out but just a broken wire inside the isulation of the wire if thats the case replace the whole wire, or cut out the broken section and reconnect. hope this helps if not than we should discuss the symptoms more closely. good luck

 

well I had that idea myself but I gave up last night because I was so mad that i didn't want to creak anything else... but hey got my stereo to work, back you your idea, yeah that worked and it worked well ao I pretty much just need to fin a new wire? yeah and too late...I already pulled the whole wire out last night ... thanks for your help, any further input would be greatly appriciated
