tails not working

ok i did a search so bare with me...short and sweet...running lights are working but brake lights do not and the signals work. (talking bout tail lights) um from what i read...theres a switch on the brake pedal. i was wondering how would you go about fixing it or is it just like a door alarm where its magnetic sort of thing... also just incase if that doesn't solve the problem what else could it be? thanks for your input.

Assuming you have the correct bulbs in the socket, it could be one of the following items. The "STOP/HAZ" fuse (test by turning on hazards), common ground for the tail lights (check for corrosion or bad connection), white wire from brake switch to "TURN/HAZ" switch. BTW, the stop light switch is a push in type switch that will only stay depressed with pressure on the brake pedal. It could also be that the switch is loose in its bracket and only needs to be adjusted.

i know i have the right lights in there (1157's)...and by pulling all the fuses dealing with lights checking and putting them back i know thats not the prob...maybe its the ground but im assuming its the switch. but ill keep in mind..white wire.

Actually Curtis84TA, according to the GM service (not haynes or chiltons) manual for your car, they should be #2057 and not #1157.

Camaros used the #1157's and the firebirds used the #2057's.

got them fixed...it was the switch after all...the two connectors weren't connecting and the spring had lost its "spring" aka wouldn't go back and forth with the pedal....10 dollars later a new switch and bam working once again.

thanks for the help
