sounds like a/the cooling fan wire. if you have dual fans, one is probably black w/purple stripe, the other should be the wire in question - black w/red stripe.

sorry,

i have tried a couple of times, my files are about 24,000 bytes to big? maybe if i explain? on the firewall as you are at the front of the car, its grouped with three harnesses in the driverside corner. it is the top right harness and the smallest harness. it is maybe a 12 gauge, and their is a red of equal size also. they are the same size as the smaller red out of the alternator going to the starter.

i'm pretty sure i know where you're talking about, but usually that size of wire is for ignition related, power distribution, or cooling fan(s) components. do you have one fan or two, and does it/they work?

i'm not completely familiar w/TBI cars, but if they have only one fan, and i believe that to be true, then chances are that your one and only cooling fan wire is the black w/red. there will be no black w/purple...
