do i just not have a big enough battery?
do i just not have a big enough battery?
Ok there is a few things that i do think are wrong with my car i get paid today so i need to get whatever is wrong fixed. The first thing in the morning the car wont start up right away does not crank very fast. i think one of these are the problems A) the battery does not have enough cranking amps. B) my plug wires i dont think are getting a good spark through them. C)my fuel pump slot does not have a fuse in it. has not since i have owned the car. D) my spark plugs need to be changed. and does anyone know the cold cranking amps needed for a 1984 t/a 305 tbi. if there is any other things that may be the problem let me know so i can check it out

The slow cranking & hard starting are probably inter-related, but it's hard to tell to what extent until the slow cranking is fixed. Fixing the slow crank could completely fix the hard starting...or maybe not. For this reason, I'd recommend concentrating on that problem first. As I see it, it's probably either:
1.) The Battery
2.) The Starter
...in that order. Could also be wiring, etc, but I doubt it. You probably have a battery that's half dead. First thing is pop off all the cell caps and make certain all are filled to their high mark (even maintenance-free batteries need refilling from time to time). Fill with deionized water, preferably. Start the car and run it around with a low load (no power inverters, car audio amps, etc) for a while to help it recharge. In all probability, you'll see no difference because it's simply half-gone. If it fixes itself, good for you, but if not just grab a new one from Autozone. Replace it right there in the parking lot. If it doesn't immediately crank over faster, place a meter on the battery during crank and at the starter during crank. If you get roughly the same readings, replace the starter. If not, it's probably a loose connection somewhere between the battery & starter.

Well...Yea you're right it Could be a low battery, how long have you had it? Then again it could possibly be a fuel pump you should have someone tap the tank while you try and start it, but thats not very likely. I'd say its most likely a starter or battery. You shold try jump starting it

what weight oil are you using? Pretty common to over look that. as for battery power I have a 1000CCA pattery in mine and it will turn it over in the dead of winter. well. after I change my oil out. the 10-40 i run in the summer really does slow things down when trying to start it up in sub zero winter chills. almost like honey till it heats up lol. My other camaro has like a 650cca.... and that one takes a little bit to turn over in the winter... but i figure that is due to the age of the battery.
