Headlight Short, please help.

I hit a deer with my 87 Firebird. one headlight was completly ripped out, while the other was untouched and working fine. When i turned on the highbeams, the light shorted out. I have replaced the destroyed headlight with one off of my 88 Trans Am. Now im having trouble Figuring out why i can't get my headlights to turn on, i have no blown fuses. If anyone could help me asap so i can fix this a have something to get to work with, it would greatly appreciated.

Are you certain the '88 headlight motor is compatible with the '87 wiring? There was a design change during that period, but I'm not certain exactly what years had which type of lights and controls. If memory serves me, the '88 model year was the first with the single Guide control module for the light motors, while earlier versions used the multiple relay logic design. The motors were necessarily different.

What wire did u find? i slid down a ditch into a fence post, and the headlights worked for about 2 weeks then altogether went out.
