identify this sensor please

its on the passenger side of the engine of a 305 tbi

You say its on the passanger side? Kinda looks like a coolant temp sender thats had the terminal broke off or something. On my 86 TPI, it's on the drivers side though. Not 100% sure what that is on yours.

well it did have something plastic attached to it but it broke off. heres a pic of it.

Thats a coolant temp sender for... Gauges, AC, or AUX coolant fan.

Pass side is for the "Fan Switch". There should be a loose black wire somewhere around there. Ground that to the engine block and the fan will kick on.

well i took it off and coolant started coming out. I looked at the sensor itself and it doesnt seem like it can be replaced. am i doomed..?

Yep they can be replaced for about 10 bucks

That is the secondary (heavy duty) coolant fan switch if you have the dual coolant fans. If you have just the single coolant fan it is the coolant fan switch. No need to add primary to that since it would be the only switch for the fan.
