im about to cry :((

oookay I shouldnt have done this ****&$*@# MYSELF!

i got a glowing overlay for my meters,
i cant seem to put the needles back in right!
now only my rev and voltage and oil pressure
reads correctly..

my speedo doesnt move, my temp gauge doesnt move,
my gas doesnt move..(like I know when i brake from high speed, gas reading used to decrease a little bit due to flow in the tank)

I had no problem AT ALL.. before I tried putting this overlay and pulled the needles off.. now im faced with all the bull *sob*

also I put my temp gauge needles way too far inside.
could that have damaged something?
i mean it went almost all the way in the hole.. and I had to
open the whole cluster portion to take it out.. so my gauge will go over it.

whats possibly damaged? is it just beter to buy a new cluster
and hook them up.. but then ill have a false mileage too..

ill keep trying though but seriously for past 6hours ive been trying and trying
and im scared my car would overheat without me knowing..

what did you do to put the faces on? are they the otto reverse glow faces?
i just recently put a set on my cluster but i didn't take the needles off, i don't think they're supposed to come off.if you undo the screws on the gauges like you're supposed to you can move the needles. if you need i have an extra gauge cluster with a 120 speedo and an 8k rpm tach from an 89 formula i'll sell you. you could just take the whatever instrument gaugs you need and replace yours.

Unless you've got problems with the car overheating on a regular basis, I wouldn't worry about it. Yeah it's going to suck until you get it all sorted out, but I don't see any immediate danger or safety issue other than a cop hassling you or something for having no working gauges. You could check other posts, im sure there is sticky somewhere about overlay installs. I dunno if McEwen has instructions on their webpage but yeah those things are a little tricky. Part of the reason I haven't messed with the ones on my S10. I don't want to F anything up.

Im not sure if any of my wiring is screwed up or not..
as I did not touch any of those,
all I did was take needles off, and on.

I think its the otto reverse glow yes..
I did fix my speedo now, I just had to put a glew on the overlay so that it wont stick up and give needles resistance to move.

my tank and temp is still screwed though.. all needles except for these 2 kind of moves by itself when I move them(almost like a ball bouncing)
but the gas and temp gauge doesnt move by itself at all..

different mechanism?
you are right I shouldnt overheat or anything.. just sucks to not have it though.

johnyboy thanks for the cluster but I think be4 I buy anything Ill keep tacking this thing..
should have known its so tricky

but thinking about it now.. i think i did NOT need the needles off.. I think it was possible to just slide them in,
is that what u did johnyboy?

man this is me right now :

the face for the speedo and the tach just slid on but you have to take the screws out and then put them back in to hold down the faces. the gauges with 2 needles were a little more difficult, i took the gauges out of the cluster and then took the screws out that hold the face to the gauge itself then i moved the gauge from under the face until i had the arrows in a position where i could slid the faces on. i didn't actually take the needles off of the gauges because as far as i'm aware they're made to not come off.

If infact you do need to get another speedo you can always remove your mileage spindle from your old one and install it into the new speedo. I did it when I changed to 145 and it is an easy swap over.

alright.. thats cool, I didnt need to remove the needles.

too bad i did.. grrr now what can i do
I got the speedo right, RPM is accurate,
voltage is good, oil pressure is good,
just the temp and fuel tank gauge doesnt move at all.

i tried pushing in, loosen up, blah blah maybe 50times already, neither works..

before it used to work perfect and now..

i probably totally fcked it up.. one store told me that beneath the needle there's a tiny precision spring that holds the needle,
I probably totally damaged that..

now until I find a new used cluster panel,
my car runs without temp gauge and gas gauge..

i've got an extra cluster, i can sell you the whole thing, or just the two gauges.

hey thanks man..

but I already ordered a used cluster
for good price,
which is direct replacement for mine.

Im a noob when it comes to electronic stuff,
so I'll stay away from swapping to a different type of
cluster.. thanks though!
