High beams not working

I just got my '88gta about a month ago and I cant get the high beams to turn on. when i pull toward me with the signal switch, it just moves freely and doesnt click or anything. What should i do? Also, is there a light on the dash that lights up when the brights are on? Thank, -Austin

Yes, there is a blue high beam indicator lamp on the I/P.

The low/high beam switch at the base of the steering column is actuated by a linkage rod from the lever you pull. Try changing the tilt position of the steering wheel to see if it will take up any of the slack and operate the low/high switch. If so, the switch may require only some adjustment. If tilting doesn not help, the switch may be WAY out of adjustment, failed, or the linkage rod may have fallen out.

yeah the little rod that goes into the column bends sometimes cause of the tilt feature.. try tilting it in other positions and it should click.

Sure is better than having them stuck on all the time

I installed a floor swith and have no problems with that. Sometimes i step on it accidentally and blind people
