Fog Light Switch Temperature
I just recently installed fog lamps. Now I installed the lamps per factory specs and even used the existing factory wiring, lamps, switch, and relay. The only thing I noticed was that the fog lamp switch gets really hot. Whether the lamps be on or off the switch is hot enough to the point that you cannot have your finger on it for more than 5 seconds. I thought this might be a problem. The hot lead for the relay is fused with a 20A fuse. The lamps are functional and the circuit operates correctly from what I can tell. I figured maybe that is just a function of how this circuit usually works. Can anyone else tell me if their fog lamp switch gets pretty hot?

true but they function just fine. but anyways.
the thing that is making it hot is too much amperage flowing through the circuit. you can reduce the heat by enlarging the conductors.

It's just odd though. The wiring from the switch to the firewall is factory gauge wire. I used everything the 88 Camaro manual says as for wire gauge. If I needed to enlarge a wire which one would it be? There are only two wires that go to the switch. One goes to the relay and the other goes directly to the positive site of the fog lamps.

I am having a good feeling that it is fine and I am worrying too much. I went under the hood and the only thing that was remotely hot was the relay. All the wires were cool and not noticably hot. Thanks for your input.

IN A FOG
Your for fog use only lamp switch has a
lamp in it that can make the switch as
warm as you describe.

That's pretty funny. I thought the lamp might be the case. The little green light must put off a ton of heat. Thanks everyone.
