Am I able to wire up my stock OP guage w/o a comp?
Wondering if anyone has any idea on this. I would like to re-use the stock guage for the time being, I know I know, the guages aren't as acurate as an aftermarket one, but I don't have the money and I am scared to death I will loose pressure and not know it.
I have a 91 Z28 that was a 305 TPI car, and I know the dash is controlled by a voltage regulator, and the gas guage and tach currently work, so I know they are getting power, but would I be able to wire the oil guage back in and will it still work without there comp being used (its a carbed small block).
I read up on the operation of the gauge, and from what it says all I need is a sending unit, instrument panel voltage regulator(IPVR) and a guage wired in series. And from what I understand it is a single TAN wire that runs to the guage and send the info from the sensor. So since the sending unit is the ground and the guage recieves its power from the IPVR all I would need to do is rehook up the tan wire correct??

Also, would I be able to wire the sending unit in as it was before, incase I loose oil pressure the fuel pump will kick off and the engine will stall out due to lack of gas??
Here is a generic wiring diagram, I want to get this right before I go messing things up.

yes just wire it back up to the correct sending unit
and thats not how it was originally wired, the oil pressure switch works along side your fuel pump relay
ive thought about wiring it up to rely on the oil pressure switch before, when i was using my remote start alot and not paying attention to the car.. 160k , ya never know when somethings gonna slop into my oil passages and clog something up ;0
err though I should probably also mention the pressure switch has nothing todo with the oil pressure sending unit ;0

And the sensor, switch, sending unit are labeled as the same part in the same location.

well that depends I guess on what you were originally asking about
the oil pressure guage, and the oil pressure warning light work off different circuits

thats not what your oil pressure gauge gets a reading from, the other line is going to the oil pressure warning light (the 'OIL' light that comes on if you turn your key to on and dont start up car)
the oil pressure gauge uses another sender

I dont know where your gauge sender is supposed to be, stock location was probably near the distributor
if your car wont start without the switch, your fuel pump relay might not be any good... though the computer controls the relay initially.. so if your computers not hooked up at all I guess that answers that
