car died

While driving home, my car suddenly lost all power, the lights went out, the engine stopped and i had to steer the car onto a side street with no power. What i am wondering, does this sound like an alternator issue? I had an alternator go on me before on my old sunbird but i was able to drive the car home, when that happened, the guages started going erratic and such but i didnt notice that with my camaro, it was a sudden power loss.

I tried starting the car, nothing, no click of the starter etc. Let the car sit a minute, the clock in the console starts ticking again, so i try to start again and still nothing. Look at the guage and the needle is under the half mark. I checked the battery and the eye is green which it says means the battery is charged but obviously it isnt charged enough to start the engine.

Could get my window to go up, but headlights wouldnt come on and neither would the hazards. Only power i could get was the interior light, the clock and the windows.

Did the battery draw current when you charged it?
Does the interior light go out when you turn on something else?
I don't think it's your battery (it wouldn't have made the car die on the road), or a short circuit. There must be a bad connection at a specific place between the starter (where the main current for all the circuits in the car probably comes from) and the fuse box/ ignition switch.

Check your battery ground. Could be it will carry mininal amounts of current but not enough to power the components requiring high current.

definatly not the battery, i put it in my dads truck and the truck started no prob and it was at 14. Tried wipers, no go, tried horn, no go, tried headlights again, still no go. Now that the battery is ruled out, I will check the starter. I did a test light on the ignition wire under the steering wheel, turned the key and no power to light the light. Before i did that, i checked power at the distributor on the BAT wire and again, no power. I dont understand though how i can get power to the interior lights and windows, but nothing else. Where at the starter would i look, the power cable running off the battery to the starter?

the light goes out when i turn the ignition as well the clock stops ticking.

The power for all accessories in the car is taken sometimes from the battery terminal, and sometimes from the starter terminal (maybe via a fuse link). Just find a relatively heavy guage wire going from the very heavy guage starter wire somewhere. It ends up in the dash somewhere. Check for corrosion and burnt connectors on that one. The break is obviously not a total one, so small current drawers like clock and interior lights don't overload the bad connection.

I dunno if this is related to my problems but on the drivers side, i have a green wire that is not connected to anything, it runs through a hole in the firewall on the drivers side and is crimped to a blue wire which is connected to a black box on the firewall in the engine bay. What is this box and what is the wire inside teh car supposed to be connected to. I cannot recall if it was ever connected before as i had it taped up, but the car has been running for a year with it like that. That is if i am right about it not being connected to anything.

I found the problem, it was at the starter. The 2 wires that go on the large lug were corroded off, not a blown fusible link. Damn links were in a metal tube though that i had to take off, it was attatched to the back on the engine block. The wires run through it.

1-Do i need this tube or can i put heat wrap around the wires coz its difficult to get to that back bolt that holds it on.

2-There are supposed to be 2 fusible links correct? One on the red wire and one on the other? Coz i dont see one on the purple wire.

But the stock black plastic connection piece is still on the purple wire so im assuming it wasn;t hacked like the other 2 wires.

3- Those 2 fusiblel links, am i supposed to merge them into one and crimp an eye ring terminal on the end or do i keep them seperate and put a ring terminal on each wire?

Good work! I don't have specific knowledge of Camaros, only general experience with some different cars, but it's mostly similar.
You can find decent wiring diagrams on AutoZone.com - Get in the Zone! (click Repair Info, Vehicle Repair Guides, Wiring Diagrams) but it didn't show both of your fuse links at the starter, only one.
1: Why do you need to route the wires outside of the tube? The links are in the for two reasons, it protects them from breakage due to vibration, and it protects against fire if the link burns off. Heat wrap would be nice fire proof insulation though, but could also act as a wick if exposed to oil leakages..
2: Two links sounds ok, one probably goes to the alt. and the other to the ign. switch. The purple comes from the ign. switch and is therefore already protected by one of the other fuse links, and should go to the small terminal on the starter, .
3: I would keep the links on separate ring terminals so that you don't need to disturb the other if one of them fails.
