How many wires to the starter motor?

I have about 4 smaller wires plus a big heavy wire going to my starter. When I look at the schematic in the Haynes manual I can only account for 2 of these smaller wires. How many should there be? 3 of the 4 look to have fuseable links on them.

Thanks

I've seen 2 and I've seen 3...but I've never seen anymore than that.

could possibly be for an option of sorts...maybe something dumb like a "rust illiminator". I've seen those on a few cars. maybe push button start? just a few option to throw out there.

I am going to disconnect 2 of them and leave the one for the starter and the one that comes from the alternator to try and eliminate the purpose of the other 2. Are there any potential hazards with doing this?

Did you find out anything? Did all 4 go to the same big post, or did 2 of them go to 2 smaller posts? A "manual" ignition with a resistor can have a 3'rd post on the starter giving 12V straight to the coil to boost spark when cranking.

I wont be able to look at it until Thursday as I have been very busy. From what I can remember when fitting the starter all 4 of these wires went to the one post.
