Gauge cluster swap?
Hi all. I was wondering what is involved in swaping an 89 trans am gauge cluster(all gauges), into a 83 firebird(no gauges).
The 83 is a 305(lg4). Thank you to all that help.

Gauge cluster swap
I want to retro fit the newer cluster in my 83. my plan was to run just the wiring from the sensors to the 89 gauges. Get my idea? Is there a mech speedo that was in a 83 that went to 110+?

Gauge cluster swap
I found out there is an gauge set that came in a 83 w/tach. My question is other than installing the right sending units(sensors), what esle is involved in switching non-gauges to gauges w/tach?

The warning light clusters used a different dash harness than the gauge clusters for the early thirdgen Firebirds. You will need to find a harness from an 83' V8 Firebird that has gauges-(try a bone yard), or re pin your existing IP harness connectors. Also the warning light dash cars used the resistance from the charging light in the dash to switch on the alternator, and start it charging. The gauge cluster cars used a resistance wire running from the ignition switch to turn on the alternator, so all this has to be dealt with too. Lots of people have converted the Camaro from warning lights to gauges as the wiring harness is the same for both, and you only need to swap the sending units for oil pressure, and temp. The Firebird is another story. As far as I know nobody has done a tech write up on switching the Firebird from warning lights to gauges. With no procedures your on your own.

Gauge cluster swap?
I was planning on removing the; cc-q jet, cc-hei, and installing a one-wire gm alternator.
So i just need the dash harness with the gauge cluster?? Maybe i will just install an "autometer dash"
I need gauges...if i cant see whats going on with the motor....im not driving it
. Also, thanks oldschool for info
