if the lighter keeps blowing the fuse when its hooked up what could be the problem and how do i fix it. For now i unplugged the lighter socket from its power supply in the dash and taped up the supply. Id like to fix it tho but idk if its the socket or the supply being hooked up that blows the fuse and id really like to charge my mp3 player in the car especially im driving out of state soon and if it dies ill be pissed.

It sounds like you have a short there in the circuit. Try checking the wiring and the connectors at the lighter. Replace lighter if you need to.

does it blow even with nothing in there? and if not then does it blow when you use the cig lighter to light your cig?

it could be faulty wiring, faulty lighter socket or mayb your MP3 player is drawing too much power...do you use an inverter?

I have the same problem. I have the car history and it looks like this particular car has had the same issue three or four times before I got it. The cig housing was changed out before it had 600 miles and still didnt fix it. In the short time I have had this car, I have changed out the fuses three times. The stereo is out and wires are not exposed. Let me know what worked for you. Thanks!

i have the same problem with my lighter. when i looked inside i could see one of the tabs inside close to touching the sides. it only blows a fuse when i plug something in it. since i dont smoke i dont worry about it. i wouldnt think the mp3 player would draw anymore then a cell phone, but not sure.

My cell phone charger blows the fuse every time. I'd really like to know a solution if anyone comes up with one.
