Electrical problems - check here!
My Camaro suffered low voltage, dim lighting, slow turn signals, and other voltage problems for years. Over the past 10 years I've replaced 8 alternators, 6 batteries, and even replaced the battery cables in an attempt to up the current yet nothing ever got the gauge (which I've replaced twice as well) above 11 volts even though a diagnostic voltage check would show alternator output of 13.8 volts or better. Finally, my fuel pump died in February and in tracing the wiring I discovered the voltage ended at the main junction located on the radiator support. After removing it I found it to be partially melted and the stud loose allowing the connectors attached to it to corrode, leading to the no voltage condition. The car had been hit by lightning in 1996 and I'm assuming that this is what started the problem but I can imagine after 15 or more years other 3rd gen cars could have other things causing problems at this connector. The toasted junction is on the left and the clean, $2.00 junkyard piece is on the right. After replacement my problems are all fixed, the voltmeter reads higher than it did when new, and the engine even seems stronger! Heres hoping this helps some of you out!

Your headlights are flashing? Is it a consistent in duration or does the flash speed increase and decrease? Do you hear any clicking sound when the flashes occur? This sounds like a circuit breaker resetting itself.

From the 1982 Camaro Service manual, page 8A-55, Headlights -- Troubleshooting Hints......
If HEADLIGHTS flash on and off with switch in "Head," (headlight switch in headlight "on" position) isolate short to ground. Operate the HEADLIGHT DIMMER SWITCH to find if the short to ground is in the TAN or LT GRN (light Green) wires.
If only the "HI" HEADLIGHTS flash on and off, check LT GRN (Light Green) wires for shorts to ground.
If only the "LO" HEADLIGHTS flash on and off, check the TAN wires for shorts to ground.
If both the "HI" and "LO" HEADLIGHTS flash on and off, check the YEL (Yellow) wire for a short to ground.
Your description of the headlights flashing may indicate an intermtittent short in one of the wires. As you dirve the wire harness will bounce around in response to bumps in the road. As the wire insulation has aged it may have cracked somewhere that it now bounces aganist a bare metal portion fo the body, causing the intermintent ground and the flashing.
You will need to get the correct wiring diagram for your model year and an ohmmeter to check the circuits. Note also that all the headlignt circuits are routed through the C100 connector from inside the car to the engine compartment. The C100 connector is mounted on the fire wall to the left of the brake booster, behind the left wheel well. So you can pull the headlingt connector off in the engine compartment and troublshoot from there. Don't forget to check the circuits inside the car to the light and dimmer switches.
It would probably be best to start at each headling and work back throung the wire harness to the C100 connector. You will probably have to move the wiring harnesses around to try and simulate the ground if you cannot find a bare piece of wire where the insulation is cracked or missing.

Re: Electrical problems - check here!
Thanks, I will try your suggestions. There is not a constant hot wire for my radio so my son wired one in to the stop and hazard fuse. That’s when the headlight starting flashing so yesterday I moved the wire to ACC (accessory) fuse. I will see what that does.
We have been unable to find correct wiring diagram for our car. We have a 87 305 Z28 4 barrel carburetor. Would anyone know what the Gray and brown wires are behind the radio are for? Also the choke light is staying on so we had it checked and there is no power to it. Can anyone tell us where the wires are for the electric choke and how they connect?
Thanks
