Dang Horn! **Pix Added**

90 Firebird Horn not working. Used a circuit tester and no power to the horns and no power to the horn buttons. Fuse is good. Buttons on the steering wheel are actually good and contacts are good (airbag style). Looked under the dash, do not see a horn relay like I saw in other photos here (unless its diff on this yr 90).
-Is there a way to test the horns (2 on drivers side near battery) to see if they even blast?
-Can you re-wire it direct w/o all the relay crap?
Any replies would be helpful, NEED a horn here in Los Angeles!

Re: Dang Horn!

There is a horn relay on there. I'm sure of that. It should be right above the Hazard Flasher relay. You know, the 1" aluminum circular relay.

Can you re-wire it direct

You can test the horns by putting voltage to them directly.
Don’t wire them without the relay.
The relay makes sure the horns gets enuff power.
How else are ya gonna blast those slo-pokes
that rubber neck every little fender bender?
Also the relay prevents the horn button from pitting.
( No not a pit-stop I mean corrosion )
.

Re: Dang Horn!

NINÅ, Since its right next to the battery I would assume you just take 2 wires (pos and a neg) from the battery and touch the connector on the horn to test? (while not letting them touch of course). Got that right?
-I took pics of under my dash, will upload in about an hour. I do not see a "convenience center" under here, just an empty space where its supposed to be (perhaps earlier yrs?) strokermotor91, I think its eluding my eyes.....

1st car Ive ever owned where the horn dont work.

Re: Dang Horn!

you can test the horn by just hooking it up to the car battery. The horn relay for my 91 bird is under the dash. has your horn worked before?

[quote=j dezzy;3317874]Horn relay should be here, along with the a few others

-Ya know, I took off that block box (the buzzer you have circled) and I could see the silver circular hazard relay on top and between the buzzer and that there is an EMPTY space! No doubt that is where my horn relay is supposed to be? Looks like something should plug in there (dk where it disapeared too) Also to the side are 2 20amp fuses that say (hdlps or something like that). Will pick up a new relay tonight at autozone (if they have it in stock) and hope for the best. Cause everything else is hooked up etc....
-And yes, the horns do blast as I tested them to the batt.

Re: Dang Horn!

awesome. good luck getting the relay. they should have it in stock. At the zone here they usually have about 8 or so just hanging on a peg hook.

Re: Dang Horn!

Mine didn't work either. Looks like the steering wheel was removed before and someone just pulled the wire straight out of the column. Anybody know how to get around that short of removing the column? So to pass inspection I ran a wire from the horn to a switch inside the car, and from there to a constant hot circuit in the fuse panel. now I just have to reach for the button. I still want to fix it right I'm just not sure how to go about it.
