Wiring problems

Ok guys, I have a wiring mess. I have an s-10 with a recently rebuilt 350. I had someone build the engine, but due to moving was not able to finish the project. The engine is complete and in place. I know a little bit about what i'm doing....but not a whole lot. My problem is the wiring. It was always a mess from the start. I'm looking to wire the engine up (starter, alternator, distributor cap) just like an old school 60's camaro. pretty much all new wires seperate from the origional harness. Everything in the cab still works, wipers, radio, blinkers/lights. I need to know what will go where, What needs to be grounded and where to run it to. How to get it to send voltage when I turn the key over. What wires to run to get my alternator to charge the battery. That kind of stuff. My starter has the main post, and a little post on each side. I'm sure there needs to be a ground there somewhere. The engine has nothing computer wise. Please help.

Re: Wiring problems

Buy yourself a wiring diagram. Everything must be grounded. Electricity is nothing to play with unless you fully understand what you are doing or are being closely supervised... Just my opinion.

Re: Wiring problems

Well, I have the main ground connected, and I guess what i'm wonderin is, on the starter, does it ground it's self on the engine, or does it need a ground wire. I was told it grounds on the engine. I got a volt meter out and tested the volts on each wire to see what ran 12 volts, and what didn't. I'm just lookin to bypass the harnes, direct wire the alternator to charge the battery and a wire to the starter. I'm just not quite sure how to do it.....right.

Re: Wiring problems

for the alternator, we need to know the model. Most require a positive diretly to battery, a charge indicator lamp, and another hot wire to regulate voltage.

Re: Wiring problems

Just so you know, a moderator will lock this thread. It is about your S-10 not thirdgens. However, when they do, feel free to PM me if you have any questions.

As mentioned already, this post has no thirdgen content so I have to lock it. For S10 tech, you may find www.s10forum.com to be helpful.
