this might give you a laugh.

so, when my ebrake is on and the car is running, the brake light does not come on, however, when you press the hatch release button, the brake light on the dash DOES light up, and sometimes the hatch will pop. weird huh?need to rewire the whole hatch but im wondeing if pullin the ebrake will pop the hatch right now.

electrical problems are soooo much fun aren't they?!! i can't wait for another ses light or completely unexplained malfunction to come my way. i think i have electric mice living in my relays

by the way, if anyone sees trickster ask him to post up a diagram of the 87 hatch pulldown wiring please. that would be an 87 GTA wiring daigram

Re: this might give you a laugh.

I would pull your center console and check out the wiring under it. The wire for the E-brake light and the two wires for the hatch pop are very simple, and they are right next to each other and bundled together. Having had my interior torn apart several times it is easy to see how a little confusion or a short/incorrectly repaired harness could cause the problems you are describing. I would check this out first.

Re: this might give you a laugh.

There is a ground to the floor inside of the center console. If the ground is bad, it definitely could back feed and cause similar symptoms. I have the diagram for 88 camaro, if you want. The circuits should be the same.

One of the defroster wires that plugs in near the hatch strut in the back of the car has come unplugged. Plug it back in and everything should function again.

Re: this might give you a laugh.

thanks guys. this week has been full of,, "fun". Under my hood i found one melted weatherpack connector that goes to my coolant sensor on the passenger side of the block under cylinder #8. anyone know where i can get these new? i assume that's why it turns on every time i turn the key right? i also found that the sparkplug wires have not been changed, possibly, for the last eight years. the manufacture date on my wires is 10/99. well ima party like it's 1999 under the hood of my car and see wat i come up with!

i need a list of every ground under the hood, i found like four maybe five and i pulled every one of them, cleaned the connector, sanded the grounding point, inspected the wire and reinstalled if there wasn't an issue, replaced or refurbished them if there was. i need to know if i'm missing any though. also i have yet to find a vacuum hose that isn't crumbling on this car and thats on my to do list as well, fresh lines all over. J*SUS CHR*ST i want to strangle the so called mechaninc that put this motor in. everywhere i look it's just shotty work and ignored problems. im practicing my soldering skills and buying the proper materials so tat i can get this thing running mint. all help is appreciated. oh and on the good side i've gone 50 miles without the SES light coming on so that's a plus

Re: this might give you a laugh.

My BRAKE light does the same thing when I push the hatch release button, and I don't have any problems. Maybe the light is supposed to act as an indicator for the hatch release, IDK.
As for the parking brake light, the switch on the lever probably needs to be replaced or bent back into shape. Sometimes the tang that holds the wire to the switch assembly gets bent, and that screws the whole dang thing up.
Either way, you seem to have on heck of a mess on your hands. Good luck!

Re: this might give you a laugh.

hey thanks for the reply. 500 plus miles and no SES! had some interesting overheating problems that required me to run the heat in 80 something degree weather which was sweet but overall its okay. got the coolant sensor properly grounded now, just moving slowly through each problem. next week it's new sparkplugs cap rotor wires all that good stuff, hopefully get it sorted out.

took a trip to indiana in the car, got 20 miles to the gallon doin 70 plus miles an hour for three hrs at about 250* engine temp so im fairly happy but i look for mileage to go up once i get the cat off and put new ignition components on
