Wouldn't you know it....right before I get new injectors and fuel pump and the project is almost over......all my gauges just go out on me.....Only thing that reads is the fuel gauge......everything says it is at 0....oil press...tach...speedo...temp..... replaced the fuse and helped for about 3 minutes and then gauges stop working again.....im seriously bothered by this....



oh yeah....when i try to turn my headlights on the car beeps at me like i have my door open with the key in the ignition.........HELP

sorry to state the obvious but...
you have a short. Get out the multimeter and start tracing wires.

 

it cranks over fine runs fine just gauges are screwed.... oh well....

 

Definetly a short. Have you added or removed anything lately? Check all of your connections, especially dash ground and guage harness. A wiring diagram may help.

Im going through the same problem as of right now. My wire tracing has already started.

 

I had to order a panel cluster from camaro land out of Cal.
Kind of expensive $350.00, But my gages and speedometer work
now.

 

I have run across the problem you are having many times before. Usually, a previous owner or mechanic who is careless or does`nt know what they are doing pinches a wire which can cause a short, does not make connections properly, hooks wires together without knowing what they are doing or what they go to. I was checking over my Iroc a few days after I bought it and found that the grounds that attach to the bell housing were not attached, same with engine grounds and only 2 loose bolts holding the tranny in.Your problem is probably a bad connection, bad ground or a short. Wiring is not as hard as some make out. Be patient and trace your guage panel wires to their source and you will find the problem. A wiring diagram is helpful. If your car was running ok before the guage problems(not overheating etc.) if it was me I would take my time so as not to get frustrated, and track down those wires. If your gas guage does`nt work you should be able to guess at when it`s time to gas up. Don`t get frustrated, these are "old" cars and need some tlc from time to time. Check the old posts and tech section on this site for ideas, make a list and go for it.

 

You said that you replaced a fuse or fuses and your guages worked for a few minutes then stopped working. If the fuse or fuses blew again, that in itself tells you your problem is a short. The only way to fix it is to do what has already been advised.

 

Traced wires....a wire was grounding itself on the transmission......found this out after taking apart the dash......
