Please help, fan wiring issue and AZ is heatin up fast
ok so after being fed up with my fan i bought a universal relay kit and i want to wire it to a switch but my issue is, this diagram doesnt give me an adequite way to wire a switch, it just tells me i CAN do it. i was thinking running the grey wire(ground) to a switch and tapping the positive power off my ignition for it but wouldnt that enable power at the coil all the time and it would have me switching on/off the ground only? that would work right? i was trying to figure out a way to put the switch in series BEFORE the coil but im just so tired right now its totally escaping me.
any other ideas on how to do it? Its a pretty cut and dry idea but im having a brain fart and cant remember the easiest way to do it. I know i need power and a ground for my switch and it needs to be in series but i dont know where to put it >_< any help would be great
heres the link to the intructions off jegs

Is this a Bosch 5 pin relay?
Sort of...
The voltage potential would be 'over the coil', but there's no current
flow because the ground is 'open'. No worries, it's a very common wiring
technique.
Yes sir, you're all good.

i dont know how to identify it, jegs just sent it to me its a pretty simple one though.
I thought of this one just now, since its just a switch, and the yellow wire is the relays coil power, couldnt i just tap the power off the ignition to the yellow wire, then cut said wire and drop a switch in the middle? Because from what i see, the red 10G wire is going to go to the switch IN the relay and the power will just sit there until the coil gets power and closes the contacts right?

from the key, the relay will open the connection at the fan.
The switch you want to drop in the middle would be redundant.
Know what I mean?

Yeah i get it but the reason i want to drop the switch in the middle is because when i tap the power off of the igntion, there will be potential power at the switch, then when its flipped to the closed position, the power will run to the coil and close the contacts to complete the circuit. The only time i would want the fans on is obviously while the car is running but the switch is in there because the winters get cold here and if my fans were always on when the key is on it would take forever to warm up and end up hurting me in the end ya know?

it would take forever to warm up
wont effect the warm up time of the motor.
The thermostat is pretty much closed until ~ 75% of the rated temperature.

ok so at this point im half way done, i have the switch part of the relay hooked up and all tucked away nice and neat, now i have to get it through the firewall, any suggestions? My buddy said" just drill the hole and rtv it up" but i dont wanna go the red neck route personally, where would be a good place to take it through?

Not sure why that overpriced kit was necessary.
You could have just put a switch between ground and the dark green/white wire on the fan relay on the firewall to achieve the same result.
If you drill a hole in the firewall, use a grommet to get the wire through. They are cheap and ensure that the wire won't be rubbing on the sharp edges of the freshly drilled metal and won't short circuit one day.

Re: Please help, fan wiring issue and AZ is heatin up fast
well that jegs one just let me skip a step, relay and block all wired up just needed to be routed and covered with conduit, all done now, really clean install i drilled a hole in the firewall, fed the conduit in first then took my wires through, sealed it up with silicone because i couldnt find any grommets, looks great and works perfect, im pretty proud of myself lol i put the relay and circuit breaker by the battery then ran the switch wires down under the front with my fog lights, up around the side to my firewall. Looks great IMO and it gave me a chance to pick through the crappy wiring of the previous owner and delete his less than desirable work. he had like a cheap 5 dollar alarm system in there that he put in with like 22AWG wire.....wtf? so its all out and clean now.
