They seem extremely slow, even for an outdated system, now sure what it is or even where the relay is if thats the problem.

Its an 84' Fbird. Thanks for any general Ideas.

No help here...But which flasher do you have? I want a slower flasher for my STS lights, but I'm not paying $20 for a "fancy", speed-adjustable one.

stock 1984. If it wasn't 20+yrs old i'd sell it to you. hahaha. I can't do vid though, but know its about 1/4-1/3 the speed of an average blinker.

Where are the flashers located? fusepanel? rectangle metal things.

I adapted a newer w-body electronic flasher with no problems.

Were sure its the flasher? And I understand the electrical stuff, just haven't tracked down the actual parts in the car due to hanging upside down under the dash

Anyway my question is "modified flasher?" I want to make one.

Bi-metal thermal flashers don't last forever. They do wear out and need to be replaced eventually. Mine got so slow that it was painful, so I just popped in a newer GM one.

As far as "modified" goes, on my web site, I sell modified OE flasher modules that flash correctly when LED turn signals are installed. Just so happens that the one I used in the FB was one of my original test mules with a potentiometer in it so I could time the flashes correctly before choosing a fixed resistor for the complete project. You can most certainly use a stock OE flasher for this task. Probably get everything you need (flasher & wiring) from a junkyard for real cheap.

yeah, if i can use the gran prix or a similar newer car, should be easy to find. I saw your site, pretty cool. I once bypassed a stock factory ford taurus alarm system's starter kill by opening it up and soldering on the chip. "the alarm was a PITA so I removed the siren and bypassed it instead of messing with the harness and all the wires. so seeing your mod was a bit of a flashback.

i'll see what I can do, they are painfully slow as I need to turn them on several seconds earlier than a newer car to guarentee people will see it flash. so passing on a highway doing 65 "can't go faster in the damn thing because of alignment" takes a bit longer than i'm used to. the suzuki is an agile little thing so... and the Fbird is the newer addition. takes getting used to. believe it or not but the "muscle" 107hp 2.8L is the relax car and the import is the spicy one 155hp 2.3L I4 Dunno if the Fbird can even hit 95mph anymore. "rare traveling empty highway speed"

I think these cars naturally have kinda slow blinkers. I replaced the turn signal switch and flasher on my 87 GTA and they still blink slow. I have owned a 85 T/A and an 89 IROC and I remember them being the same way.

Re: My blinkers are ssslllooowww, Help me fix them?

The reason I installed my prototype was so I could manually match the flash rate close to what was standard for the mid-80's, which indeed is a little slower than today's standards. IIRC, today is 1.5Hz, 50% duty cycle. The MAIN reason for the whole change is because I hated the flash rate being determined by alternator load...
