Help Fuse Block

Ok I have been tracking down a battery drain on my 86 Iroc. I have tracked it to the fuse thats marked " LID " I have searched all over but can't find anything that goes with lid. Does anyone have any idea what LID means. I was thinking maybe that was for the hatch motor because I do not have an underhood light.

Re: Help Fuse Block

The LID fuse is for the hatch pull down motor. I had the exact same thing happen on my 89 RS.

my pull down motor is working fine so I don't know why it is having a power drain.

Re: Help Fuse Block

The LID fuse should be powering only the hatch pulldown motor and the trunk light. Is there a chance that the previous owner hooked up something in the trunk to this circuit?

I assume you already checked that the light shuts off when the hatch is closed.

I'd pull the fuse and measure the drain current.
Then I'd pull the connector on the pulldown motor and measure the current through the fuse again. That will tell us a little bit more.

Wait a minute....that light is suppose to go off when the hatch closes? Mine has an on/off switch and when turned on, never goes off.

Re: Help Fuse Block

It does stay on when the car is off. Other weird things happen too.
1) The headlight switch gets warm/hot.
2) Voltmeter shows high load when anything is turned on, especially brake lights and/or headlights.
3) Hazard lights are almost non-functional.
4) Right blinker does not blink with lights on.

Re: Help Fuse Block

the early irocs 85-87ish had a switch for the trunk light and were not activated with the pull down motor. the later ones 88 and up worked when the trunk was released and when the trunk closed it went off.

as far as your problem, to make sure its coming from there i would pull the fuse and see if the drain goes away. its the simplest way to start.

Re: Help Fuse Block

Well, semantically, it's not a 'drain', more of an excessive load. The battery does not drain when the car is off and I let it sit. It has sat for over a week with no problem starting again.
