Tachometer not working 1991 z28

When I got this car, the tachometer was not functional. Its always pegged at 6500rpm, but when you start the car it goes through its check and goes back to about 4500rpm then back to pegged. Is this an external or internal cluster problem.

I need to replace some light bulbs in the cluster and hope that i can fix the tach. any help is appreciated.

Heres the fix. Take the needle off. Crank the car up. Let it warm up, if you know your minimum idle speed this will be easy. Once its warmed up, put the needle on slowly, making sure you put it on at what the minimum idle should be, and it should stick at that rpm, and be functional through all rpms.

WTF is that????? GHETTO. Don't listen to him. Here is a thread on the proper way to do it, there is no reason to take the needles off the clusters on these to recalibrate them.

Well, that's what all the shops told me to do in order to fix mine, and you know what? It worked! Also I thought that link was just to re-calibrate, if you read his post, his tach isn't working?
