ACC Fuse Blowing
Hi, I have a 1992 Camaro RS with a 3.1 V6 and a problem. Recently, I checked some of the fuses to find that the previous douchebag, I mean owner, put bigger amp fuses in the wrong spots.
So I replaced them and ran the car. All was well until the fuse labeled ACC blew while I was driving. It operates the horns, the dome light on the roof inside, and I think the rear defogger. So I replaced it again, yet it did the same and blew. Does anyone have any suggestions on this? I would sure as hell appreciate it, not being able to see inside my car at night is irritating.

Re: ACC Fuse Blowing
I dont know if that fuse for that year operates the car lighter, but on my 86 it does. I had the same problem and it was the lighter that was causing the short. I disconnected my lighter and it went away. Ive since went to the boneyard and picked up a lighter recepticle and lighter and have had no probs since than. Hope this helps.

Thanks, I'll try that. I don't smoke, so I don't need it.

I smoke, but I only use that for my cell phone charger or my satellite radio receiver. I only used the lighter maybe twice, so it still looks brand new.

Re: ACC Fuse Blowing
One of the most common questions on this board, and the most common culprit is the cigarette lighter.
Other things to look at, including what you've mentioned are door locks, hatch release, power mirrors (if I'm not mistaken), horn, dome light, under hood light (if equipped). All on the same ACC fuse.

Re: ACC Fuse Blowing
I disconnected my lighter, and the fuse lasted five minutes and blew. I have a hunch that my horns are the culprit because if you try to connect them, the horn sticks and won't shut off so I disconnected it. Since the horn is part of the ACC circuit, their is probably current flowing to the disconnected horn connection that's why the fuse keeps blowing.

Re: ACC Fuse Blowing
I just had the cigarette lighter replaced as suggested by many and today during a ride the acc 20 fuse burnt out again and when trying to replace it burns out again.
Looks like there's still a short circuit going on, any idea where to look next if it's not the cigarette lighter causing the problem?
And another strange this is, why when the mechanic replaced the cigarette lighter it worked all perfectly fine. Things always seem to happen when leaving the mechanic :-)

Re: ACC Fuse Blowing
I'm still having the same problem
The cigarette lighter is no longer the problem as a brand new socket has been fitted and the wiring beneath the middle console seem to be ok.
The strange thing is that sometimes the ACC fuse will last for a day or two and then all of a sudden will burn out and when trying to replace fuse it sometimes even melts the whole fuse away. When trying to replace the fuse a day or two later the fuse will sometimes - as mentioned above - last a few days or burn out after the interior lights dim down till fuse gives up. With that problem I have my infl resis light come on 1/2 times. (I know that this light indicator has nothing to do with the ACC fuse but still..)
Has anyone experience that similar case of problem, if so how did you resolve it? thnx
