alternator ?'s
My motor is out of an '88 and the alternator is bad... Can i use an alternator from an '86 and just swap the pulleys??

no... the alt is on the motor... an alt for an '86 is cheaper... thats why i'm asking.

Damn, I don't even know the year of my alt lol. Mine went bad and a friend of mine said he had a GM truck alt if i wanted it, i was like, what the heck, and i hooked up fine, runs fine too, must be more techical on TPI motors or something...

no an 86 WILL NOT fit they use a smaller alt in 88 86 had that big one and the plugs are different for those years the amps are diff too i think

Size of the alt doesn't matter, it's the guts. The <87 cars had an older style, rebuildable alt, whereas the 87-whenever cars have one where you have to replace the whole thing if one little piece inside goes bad, so they get to hose you for more. The newer one is controlled either by the ECM or some other means (depending on the car you have, obviously), which also means it costs more.
