Random start problem.

I'm having intermittent problems starting my Camaro. I have an MSD 6AL and Blaster Coil. I'm pretty sure it's a spark problem, as I am reading no voltage at the coil when cranking.
What would you guys recommend? Bypass the MSD and see what happens - is this a pretty straight forward thing to do?

Cheers

OK, I figured out how to bypass the MSD and it still does not want to start. Am I correct in thinking the inputs to the coil come from a module on the distributor? If so, is it likely this unit is corroded & failing? I did have to previously replace my distributor rotor a few years back because it was corroded.

Alright, easy enough to check the dist cap and rotor I guess, so I will give that a look tonight. I have plugged a a spark plug into the coil and held it against the block and got no spark. I am sure the firing order is correct, but yeah, no spark. When it was running it was running fine.

Re: Random start problem.

if it was running fine then just died it sounds to me like a dist problem or a cracked coil my buddy had a blazer that just died one day turned out it was a cracked coil

Re: Random start problem.

Well the weird thing is I am still able to start it on occasion. I was able to start it last night but it was running like absolute crap, would die if revs dropped below 1500. So I uploaded an older bin (super aujp 3) and was able to get it to idle at 900 no worries after it warmed up.
I went and tried to start it this morning and it turned over for ages then fired up (just before I was about to give up) and idled fine.
Do you think it's still worth checking the distributor?
