@#%$# Oil pressure sender!

Ok, I have 1986 Iroc-Z that has a bad oil pressure sender. On this car, it is located on the back of the engine, near the distributor. I can't unscrew it from the top, because the top just spins, while the bottom (the part with the threads) just stays stationary. So, I have to get at it from the fitting close to the bottom of the sender. There's barely any room at all.

Does anyone have any suggestions? Do I have to pull the distributor? I can't get the idle down to 600 (I cleaned the IAC, but I can't adjust it because I can't get the idle to go under 1000 or so. The throttle body won't close any more), so timing it would be quite difficult if I didn't get the distributor back in just right. Any suggestions that you may have are welcomed. Thanks.

Maybe you can buy a cheap wrench and bend it to fit in there.

Hmmmm, that's not a bad idea. I guess I could just put it in a vice, heat it, and bend it? Thanks for your help.

Take out the dist... Fix your idle problem..... Replace your sender.... Car will then be reliable and you will be happier

Re: @#%$# Oil pressure sender!

tpi305 they make dedicated oil pressure sending unit sockets that are deep enough and have the proper end for the sending unit.

The socket turns it by the body, though.

Not the ones my step dad has. But they don't fit in the tight area, so they are pretty useless on F bodies.
