Hazards but not blinkers
Hazards but not blinkers
I was on my way home from work, I was taking a left, I had my left turn signal on, all of a sudden the blinker stopped working. I tried the right blinker and nothing. I tried the hazards and all 6 turn signals worked (2 in the front, 2 in the back, and 2 on the front sides). Also, a fuse keeps blowing that has the dome light, fuse area light, trunk release, and radio. Even if the radio isn't on the fuse blows.
Please help!!!

Re: Hazards but not blinkers
Not sure if it's the same circuit, but some thugs to try is switching the flashed unit for the hazards to the blinkers one. The two flashed units are located in the "convenience center" under neath your dash above the ALDL plug. Drop that down and you will see the two flashers, try switching them. I don't think that you have a short withthe bulbs because then your flashers shouldn't work.
As far as the fuse blowing, check and make sure that nothing accidentally got dropped in your cigarette lghter hole. Common proble with our cars. Otherwise you will have to trace all wire to try and find the short. Otherwise there is alway the paper clip trick. Replace the fuse with a paperclip and look for smoke, LOL. Last thing I would recomend, by it's been done for years. Obviously f you do try that, protect yourself withgloves a be do not hold the paper clip there for long. I'd also recomend unplugging your radio to protect that.

Re: Hazards but not blinkers
Did you check the TURN B/U fuse? It powers the turn signals and back-up lights (do those work?). It's separate from hazards.
If it's not the fuse, it could be the flasher which is attached by a clip to the side of the fuse block under the dash. You can swap it with the hazard flasher (in the convenience center, next to the door chime module) and see if that does anything.
Hope this helps.

Re: Hazards but not blinkers
turn signal relay
Hazards will still work if the relay goes bad but the turn signals will not blink at all either off or staying solid.

Update
I got the wiring diagram from Autozone.com for my 1984 Camaro V8 5.0L automatic, and it looks like the lighter and dome/courtesy lights are on the same fuse, and it's listed as a 20A fuse, but what's in there is a 15A fuse. Dare I try to replace the 15A with the 20A it says to have there?
Update
I switched the turn signal flasher with the hazard flasher and it worked. So, I need a new turn signal flasher. I also disconnected the cigarette lighter and put in a new fuse, so far it hasn't blown. I need to let it sit in there for a bit longer until I can be sure. I also took out the headliner so I could replace it since it's like a old lady...droopy and crusty...ewww
