bad starter grind

ok i just pulled the completely perfect running engine from my truck and put it in my camaro everything it wired up and connected. Its a carb'd engine. I have the larger lead from the alternator connected to the larger post on the starter solenoid along with the wire that powers the inside of the car and then my positive cable from the battery is connected. the purple ignition wire is connected to the smaller post closest to the block. It starts to turn over fine for a second and the a loud poping sound from the starter and flywheel happens. I dont know what it is.
