battery wiring confusion

hey guys im wanting to put a battery relocation switch in my car. i want it to run off a master disconnect in the rear. my question is how do i wire it up to the switch and battery?
- i have an idea how but not sure. would i connect the battery wire to the switch, and the from switch to starter?
-also how do i connect the alternator wire to the battery?

All you are doing is moving the battery and extending the cables so the switch can go anywhere on the pos cable.

You run the Alt wire to the same terminal on the starter that the pos goes to; is the same polarity +

The pos terminal on the starter is effectively the pos terminal of the battery; just relocated.
I believe on your car a lot of the main feeds ( thick red cables ) come from that point anyway

Re: battery wiring confusion

3rd gens use the + side of the starter as a power distribution block. Most cars also got another small one located behind the pass headlight

This is how I ran a kill switch on my racecar. 3rd gen alts use another 12v constant from the starter power dist to function (not shown). Move that to the power dist block and the switch will kill everything

Yours I understand.
In his ;why does he have to shutoff the Alt, there is no OFF switch for the Alt in a std car? Turning the ign off kills everything

Re: battery wiring confusion

It will, thats why the interior, engine and alt 12v power wires are disconnected by the switch

Re: battery wiring confusion

ok so just wire the big red wire to the pos side of starter. run the alt red wire back to the battery positive side, and put the switch in between the big red wire going to the starter, and it will shut everything down?

Re: battery wiring confusion

ok i got the switch and battery all located and wired up out back. now my question is what actually gives the power to the rest of the car? is it the power wire that runs to the starter or the one from the alt to the main harness on driver side?

Re: battery wiring confusion

My alternator is not set up like this. It just has one wire that goes from the battery to the alternator and then a jumper on the alternator. I am guessing that it is rigged. Is this bad?

Re: battery wiring confusion

So you are running two selonoids? My starter already has one attached to it. What is the point of two?
