Washer not working, Pump is OK

The washer in my car is not working. I have tried a couple different pumps, so I can rule out a bad pump. Can somebody help me to get it working?

Grab your voltmeter.

Are you getting voltage to the pump when you hit the button?

Re: Washer not working, Pump is OK

Ok well maybe the pump could possibly be bad. I hooked it up to a ground and a 12v source, and it just sparked. Does this mean the pump is bad?

Re: Washer not working, Pump is OK

Thats what mine did. It arc pretty well and did nothing.
Replace your pump. I think you can one at O'reillys if you have one in your area
for $13.00
thats what a paid. Auto zone, ect. Whatever store you have in your area should stock it.
BTW, you dont have to remove the whole assembly like I did, it just makes it easier to get to. Just unplug your two hoses and it should just pull straight down to the bottm.

Re: Washer not working, Pump is OK

I just put a brand new pump in and it still isn't working. Exactly what wires do I need to test for power?

Are your wipers working? Do you hear the pump do anything at all?
Double check all your fuses then let us know what it is doing.

#16 shown shows to be the wiper motor fuse in this diagram:

Just a thought... Remove your new pump again, hook 12 volts and a negative to it and make sure it runs. If it runs, we will know we got a short somewhere.

I pulled the new pump out of the car and hooked 12v to it and it ran. What should I look for now

Re: Washer not working, Pump is OK

If the fuse is good, try using a light on the connector to see if there's any juice going to the pump. Your connector could be corroded and just needs to be cleaned.

Check your pigtail connector coming off the harness. I had the same problem and that was the culprit.

Re: Washer not working, Pump is OK

The fuse is good. Which terminal in what connector should I check for power at? Im not sure where the pigtail connector is that your talking about. Is it the one that goes right to the wiper motor cover?

Re: Washer not working, Pump is OK

Once the pigtail/connector is cleaned, plug it back on and try it. If it still doesn't work, I would do a continuity test on the 2 wires for the wash pump motor, to find where and which wire is broken. If Both wires test good, then your problem lays within the lever/wiper switch.

The problem is that the pump if it is like mine will plug internally into the wiper motor. I do not know how he can check a internal connection like that.

Re: Washer not working, Pump is OK

My pump plugs into the wiper motor itself, not the bottle like osso12 said. The only thing that goes to my pump is two rubber hoses. So does anyone else know which wire I have to check to see if their is power going to my pump?

From post 2, we are now here.

You will now probe pin B going to the wiper motor plug.

Have a friend press the washer switch.

If you get 12 volts at pin B proceed to pins D&E which is the connection for the washer pump.

Put your meter or test light across those pins (one test lead on pin D, and the other test lead on pin E) to see if you’re getting 12 volts there when the washer switch is pressed.

Happy Racing!

Re: Washer not working, Pump is OK

Well the washers are now working, but I have a new problem. That blue plastic cam/rotor? that goes to the wiper motor cover is broken off. Can I just get a new cover from a 2 speed wiper car?
