alternator woes
Hey need a little advice I've got a 91RS 3.1v6 and for no reason I can find an alternator last about 2 weeks. I've checked connections replaced the battery. I'm on alt#3 has any one had a similar problem and whats thier fix.

Re: alternator woes
Exciter wire to the voltage regulator not having enough resistance would cause this. The resistance is supposed to be supplied by your battery idiot light and voltage gauge. Is it working? If the wire is connected directly to power it burns out the bridge rectifier (in minutes not weeks though).

Re: alternator woes
I've got a couple of manuals (chilton&Haynes neither very good) this is a cs type alt 4 wire #10 black to bat, #12 red from the starter, 14#brown to 20 amp fan fuse circuit, and a#14 black not on any of the wiring diagrams.
With key off : #12red hot
#14brown not
#14black not
with key on : #12 red hot
#14 brown hot
#14 black not
hot = bat voltage not = zero no inbetweens

If People Drove Any Slower They’d Be Going Backwards
When you see fog or “running” lights on in good weather beware. Low performance driver ahead.
How bout those nitwits too scared to drive without headlights in the daytime
and the nitwits that need headlights for a little rain

Re: Alternative Part
thanks, don't ask me how I found a couple of wires crmiped flat under the steering column mount the other day and didn't have time to fix them so this am. I cut out the flat spots and barrel spliced 'em and the damn thing started chargin, and I found a motors manual 91-94 GM for 10 bucks.
Thankyou guys again I've only just joined this site but I've found some answers to some naggin' questions
