All Wired Up

Wire up a small 12 volt bulb (a side marker bulb works best).

Connect one lead to the coil primary, the other lead to ground.

Mount it in the cockpit so you can see it while driving.

The next time the ignition shuts down observe if the bulb is still illuminating.

Report findings.

Re: car dies

Does the car start directly after it dies ?

I would check the fuelpressure, measure the injectors, check batteyr voltage and ground wires.

If the car starts right up after it dies I doubt its the switch (ignition switch and/or key cylinder)

Re: car dies

Have your IAC checked could be failing to add steps to maintain proper idle.

Also check your dizzy so the terminals are fresh and not full of corrosion etc (good spark is always the way to go)

Also use an VOM and measure the resistence of your injectors should be between 14-16.8ohm (approx) and they should be close to each other not very very different.
Its easy to measure and check if they have proper values, then have your fuelpressure checked, on idle, in gear and some higher RPM.. (pressure should rise with RPM)

If the bulb stays on, you know that it is not the ignition switch, nor any of the wiring in that circuit.

If the bulb goes off it is a problem in the power feed at the ignition circuit.

Use the
B side of the primary for this test.

Re: All Wired Up

hopefully i can work on it quick. a freind of the family said his son 92 did the same thing but it was do to aftermarket stereo ( blue amp wire) said the theft system was messed up. the family member i just got it from just installed a new system in it and it didnt do this until after. i talk to the guy we bought it from said he never had a problem with the car. so i wonder if this is true about the stereo or not.
