Horn blows acc fuse
Horn blows acc fuse
Been a big fan of this site due to the many questions answered here. My problem is everytime i try to use my horn it blows the acc fuse. This happened after my horn button on my grant steering wheel decided to pop off while i was at a restraunt and the only guess i had was that it was too much for it and somehow overloaded the system. I drove it home and replaced the acc fuse. I notice that when i hit the horn it dims the dome light and i can hear the relay clicking. Thought that the relay was dead so i replaced it too. Hooked a test light up to the horn wire and it lights up when i hit the horn. I am now lost as too why this is happening. Any ideas? Thanks for the help Mike

Sounds like you have a power wire touching something!!!
The acc fuse runs a few things, does using the cigarette lighter blow the acc fuse also???
Recheck the horn wire for chaffing!!

P.S. Just wondering if you get a shock when you try the horn while touching the metal part of the steering wheel??? You can use the test light to test this out!!!
Re: Horn blows acc fuse
sounds like the horn itself maybe be shorted.seen this often. try a substite horn.also cant remember if these are single or two horn systems...if it has two check both.

I should have thought about that, I assumed that the horn did work, but kept blowing the fuse, but re-reading the OP's post, I have to admit, you may be right!!!

Connect a test light at the end of the wire connector where it connects to the horn(s), and replace your fuse, then press on the horn, and see if it blows the fuse!!
If it blows the fuse, you should have a problem in the power wire in the horn circuit, if it doesn't blow the fuse, but the light lights up, then the horn(s) is/are faulty!!

just a quick question 87IROC-Dan61, if the cigarette lighter does fault the acc fuse, what does that mean? I had this happen in my car until I pulled the cigarette lighter out all together! Thanks for any and all info.

Re: Horn blows acc fuse
It could mean a few things, the lighter it's self could be causing a short, or you could have something that broke off of the lighter jammed in there, or even the orange wire could be touching something metal behind the dash, like one member had!!
My kid tried one of those "fancy flashing light" things in his cigarette lighter socket, and it kept blowing the fuse, he took my advice and threw the crappy thing away, changed the fuse, and never had a problem since!!
