Adding a Tach.

I have a 1987 Camaro Sport Coupe. The current gauges are, BIG: Speedo, and Fuel Level. SMALL: Oil Pressure, Volts, Water Temp.(all small ones are idiot lights)
I want to add a tach, and change all the idiot lights to actual gauges. I need to know what I need to do all this. I'll be adding a couple pods on the A-post so i can fit everything nicely.
Please, I am not familiar with changing gauges and could use the help!

P.S. Is it possible to keep the stock shift light AND add a tach?

Thanks!

Re: Adding a Tach.

You want both stock and aftermarket to work. Just takecluster out fallow tack lead to the plug and piggyback the lead green wire from aftermarket tack and both should run at. Same time

Re: Adding a Tach.

Iwas under the impression that the sending unit will only work for an idiot light. And it's a different type for the actual gauge

Sorry, for the tach, I don't currently have one. Therefore what to piggyback?

Tach Welding

No sending unit is required.

Connect the aftermarket tach to the coil primary (the primary side opposite of the ignition).

Re: Adding a Tach.

yes I have installed 2 tachs now in my camaros and it is really simple it is just a madder of finding the neg side of the coil and hooking up your pos wire. also for the light because its a bitch to hook it up I just made it to when I turn my key to the on position it comes on. I also just used a sunpro tach that was for muti # cylinder motors. If you have any further questions just message me.
