dying on turns

car: 91 camaro 3.1 liter

Replaced fuel delivery system, had all elecrtical checked.

The problem is the car dies on slight turns while i'm pressing the brake. never sharp turns. no warning whatsoever, the car just shots off. after it happens voltage says 11 or 12, oil pressure says 0, everything else shuts down to zero. radio continues playing, and car rolls on w/o powersteering. what the heck causes this?

Re: dying on turns

Could be your power steering pump, or steeringbox, if they are dragging it will put a load on the motor and stall it mid turn, also could be worn steering parts creating drag, basicaly something in the steering is binding or dragging, and your power steering pump is having to work extra hard, at idle the motor can't compensate and stalls.

Re: dying on turns

just saw a third gen on waynes world that looks like mine before i wrecked. haha

Anyways, I hadn't really considered the power steering pump... hmmm sorta makes sense because sometimes in mid-turn the power steering seems to weaken up for a second and then work extra hard for the remainder of the turn...

can you think of any other symptoms to indicate a bad power steering pump or steering box? could be something that I don't notice until someone mentions it

Re: dying on turns

Isn't there a sensor on the power steering box that senses turns and beefs up the rpms a tad to eliminate this? Might look to see about that sensor and it's wiring.

RPM On The Bend

Scan for codes.

The Idle Air Control motor might not be functioning.

Re: RPM On The Bend

no codes which is not a suprise. seems like no one who has this problem (EVERYONE with a 90-92 v6) gets a code on this problem. IAC should be fine, though, brand new AC delco (as of last summer) and that and the throttle postion sensor were properly tuned. THis is why i hate EFI. stupid electrical problems.

Re: RPM On The Bend

ok this is really pissing me off. wasted 200 bucks and had ANOTHER shop refuse to have my car back. too old and not worth their time apparently. well idk if this is even an electrical problem so i should take it out of this forum. i did have a code 12 pop up today when the car died at the end of the street. couldnt find what it meant but this car is a piece. getting sick of 3rd gens in general. just old enough technology wise to be obsolete.

so you replaced the P/S pump? another thing you can do is top off your gas tank and then try to duplicate your problem... see if it happens...

Re: RPM On The Bend

interesting thing about this problem is that initially after putting in the new fuel injectors and all that it ran perfectly until i topped off the gas tank. then the problem started and now it seems here to stay. have not replaced the power steering pump mainly because the idea that was killing the engine got a lot of laughs at the shop i tried to put the car into. also i'm not throwing any more money down this hole until i get a bit more desperate
