Stock Radio Needed for 83 Z28
Folks, anyone have one out there I'd like to get it
I've gone through two since getting the car running. I haven't figured out what I am doing wrong as far as firing the thing up? Seems to work for a bit, then poof.....no radio? Cassette still works though. I am using the factory service manual to wire it up and all seems well until she blows!
Is there a subtle difference in years that I'm not aware of? Maybe I'm getting an 86 and it looks the same, but the back wiring is different?
Thanks for any help folks!

If only 2 radios went defective it could be a coincidence.
You’re connecting the power properly otherwise it would never have worked.
Are you running more speakers than stock?

When you say “blow” do you know what part of the circuitry is failing?
Are you getting a refund for the failed units?

and the ones that need headlights for a little rain

One literally smoked, the one that is still in the car didn't smoke, but the radio does not work any longer nor do the lights light up, but the cassette player still functions? Strange eh?

Yup.
Maybe there are voltage spikes damaging the radios.
You can put a dc filter in line with the next radio.

Re: Stock Radio Needed for 83 Z28
sounds like probably was just the two radios were bad,
especially the one that now only plays tapes-probably
only needs solder joint repair, typical problem with 3rd
gen era radios.
If you cannot find one,i could check my stash of radios
-do you want exact '83 style with yellow LED display or
is later green VFD display version ok?
