Speedometer only to metric
Problem: live in Australia and the guages are all U.S. version. I have a 91 Trans am and would like to switch only the speedometer to metric. I do have a metric Trans am speedometer. My question is can I just switch the speedometer over and not worry about doing any sort of changes on the back of the cluster?

Just plug in? Come out of the front or do you have to unscrew from the rear? Would be good if I didnt have to remove the cluster.

Speedo is held in the cluster by 3 screws from the back side so you will need to remove the cluster to get to them. The good news is it is pretty easy to do the teardown.
Remove the dash pad and drop the driver's side knee panel. Then loosen the accy switch panel just above the heater panel. Now remove the cluster bezel and, finally, remove the cluster.
Dissassemble the cluster from the front and expose the gages (remember to take the **** off of the trip odo reset shaft). Finally, you can now remove the gage by loosening the 3 srews holding it in from the rear and pop in your new one. If you are also changing the circuit board, it too is held to the back of the cluster by 3 other screws. Before reassembly, tighten all other gage screws and bulb holders while you have it apart.
Good luck. I had mine out in about 1/2 hour yesterday. Hardest part was keeping track of all the hardware pieces.
