Having problems with low beam headlight
I tried searching in the forum for a similare issue but no luck so I will post a new thread.
Today I noticed that one of my low beam headlight was not working but when I turned the high beams on, the low beam light that would not turn on now turns on. If I turn off the highbeams, that low beam turns off as well leaving one working properly. Also, today when using my left turn signal, smoke began to come out from the turn signal stalk and now the left turn signal does not come on. The steering wheel feels a little loose as well.
Could these two things be related since the turn signals and high beams are on the same stalk? How do I fix these problems?
I have a 92 camaro rs.
Thx.

Re: Having problems with low beam headlight
Even though the low beam filament lights when hi beams are on, doesn't mean it will light when low beams on - don't ask why, I can't say - it's just one of those things that logically should not hapen, but it does. I think there is actually 2 elements in the low beam light - that's why it has 3 wires to it and the high beam just has 2 wires. Replacing that low beam light might fix the issue - to test, take the low beam from the working side, and test it plugged into the plug for the 'bad' one.
The turn signal thing - I don't know - sounds like something fried in there. Double check the fuses first, but otherwise you might have to take the stalk apart. Might have to remove the steering wheel to get in there, in which case you'l need a steering wheel puller - can rent for 'free' at advance or autozone.

I never thought that there were two elements in the low beam. Saved me a lot of trouble on that one. Thx!

As far as the turn signal, I guess there must be a fried wire or live contact. That sucks cuz that will be a lot of work.

Re: Having problems with low beam headlight
Will there be any issues with the airbag when I try to remove the steering wheel?

Cool. On the turn signal issue - do a search on here - see if there's any part of it you can access without removing the wheel. I've only ever removed the wheel (I was changing out wheels anyway), but there might be a way to get in there without removing the wheel.
But even so, you may not be able to get to your problem without removing the wheel. Like I said you'll need a steering wheel puller (free rental at advance/autozone). On the airbag, there will be instructions in your owners manual on removal - it's just a matter of removing the fuse for it, and unplugging the connector under the dash, then removing the bag. There are 4 screws in the back that hold it on, then there is a connector in the column you disconnect.
If you have to remove the wheel, just be slow, easy, and careful. Take things one small step at a time, get a mental pic of where everything came from, and watch carefully for falling pieces. The time consumption is in the being careful part, so you can get all that stuff back in there the right way - like a puzzle kinda.
Good Luck!
