Switched to a Carbed 350.. Temp gauge no longer works

The gauge worked before I rid my car of the awful TBI, I rewired most of the gauge sensors, the Oil pressure works, tach works, speedo works, voltage reading works, but my temp gauge doesn't read anything.

It's a yellow, and a black wire to a 3/8 thread sensor that went into the intake on the TBI, I moved it into the head.

Did I accidently use the wrong sensor?

Made No Sense

The temp gage wire was originally was dark green, one wire only emanates from the sender.

The sender was located on the left, below the valve cover, on most VINS.

Sounds like you used the wrong sensor.

Re: Made No Sense

The one on the intake was the Coolant Temp Sensor for the ECM. Need the single wire temp sender for the guage. Replacements are readily available at the parts store for not much $.

Which harness does it come from? Does it come out of the driver side, or the pass?

Re: Made No Sense

The wire you seek is dark green as mentioned - there is a large harness that runs from driver side to pass side, around the back over the bellhousing. The wire exits from that harness, just about at the rear of driver side head, and it ran up and over the intake in a small plastic loom.

So, I think it is the green wire that is connected, the temp gauge used to work but now dosn't. Is that a bad sensor?

ground the wire with the ignition in 'run' and the temp guage should peg full hot

this would indicate a possible bad sender

the senders themselves seldom go bad though

it's just a simple thermistor
