guages
just bought an 89 camaro rs, and the only dashboard gauge that works is the gas level and the battery. how can i go about checking the other guages such as the speedometer, and the rpm's? i would like to do it my self if possible, so any help would be greatly appreciated.

Re: guages
ok, i understand that, but one day i took off the guage covers, and everything, but it seemed like the guage itself mounted onto the dash by pushing the guage itself into three copper holes.
the guage had three pins sticking out of the back of it, and those pins had to be touching three copper leads, would the cable be attached to the copper leads on th inside if the consol?

Re: guages
yeah man, i am dumb. i went out there to take some pics, and remambered that i never got the spedo off cause i didnt have a flathead that was small enough for the last two screws. but yeah all the other ones are the push in type. but anyways, would that mean that the guages themselves are bad on the push in types, or could it be something wrong further in the car?

Re: guages
let me also mention that when i start the car, all the guages jump to the max that they can go (except the gas and battery) and then die back down and never move after that.

Re: guages
Before I got too carried away, I'd try the simplest first: Try reseating the cluster. Removal info below in post #1:

I'd loosen the cluster without entirely removing it, then push it back into place and tighten the 10 mm nuts. See what happens and go from there.

Re: guages
let me first say that, that was a pain in the ***!! but thanks dude. i didnt get it quite finished, but i did what u said and undid the cable, and then reatached it. when i tested it, the speedo needle accelerated all the way up to 10 mph, then it died. there must be a loose connection somewhere between the cable and the needle. i am going to go and meet a guy to get some other cosmetic parts for the car, and i will check out the speedo parts in his that he is scrapping out to see if anything is loose or whatnot. another thing, when i took the face off of the speedometer, and loosened the two screws that held the mileage housing, i noticed the big wheel thing on the back of the housing. it had a little needle coming out of the middle of it that was apparently supposed to stick into another hole. the big wheel thing was a little wobbly. i am not sure if it is supposed to be wobbly, but like i said, i will check out the other camaro and see. i will put some pics up on here as soon as i get more time to look at it.
